Graduate Recruitment Manager

Outstanding US law firm is looking to hire an interim Graduate Recruitment Manager on an initial 12-month FTC to manage the end-to-end recruitment and development of the firm's Trainee lawyers.   In this role you will be responsible for implementing the strategy for each graduate recruitment cycle, ensuring the quality of the firm’s graduate talent pipeline and building on the firm’s brand to further the position as an employer of choice in the graduate market. Applicants need to have previous legal graduate recruitment experience, ideally from a Manager level however for someone looking to step-up who is happy to undertake an initial contract then this could be for you plus if you have worked at Head of / Director level and are looking for a role to take you through 2022 then please apply.

Recruitment duties:

  • Liaising with the graduate recruitment partners, practice group leaders and the Director of Legal Recruitment, EMEA to set strategic targets for graduate recruitment in line with the Global Talent Team’s objectives.
  • Working with internal marketing teams to devise and deliver an effective overall marketing campaign for the EMEA offices in line with overall Firm branding strategy.
  • Managing the screening process for all recruitment cycles, including the bi-annual process for the London vacation schemes (c. 1200).
  • Designing and running interviewing and assessment days for all candidates, working with Regional Office Managers to deliver these where needed.
  • Planning and delivering cyclical work experience and vacation scheme programmes.
  • Providing regular metrics on the graduate recruitment processes to Firm management as required.
  • Working with the Firm’s Global Director of Diversity Equality & Inclusion (DE&I) to ensure the ongoing implementation of best in class diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Development
  • Working closely with the internal Professional Development team and external training providers (including the Firm’s LPC provider) to facilitate all training requirements pre-employment and during the training contract Working with the Professional Development team to project manage the implementation of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and firm approach to the new route to qualification Coordinating training and ensuring it is compliant with the relevant regulating body e.g. SRA regulations and requirements.
  • Devising and overseeing the co-ordination of the trainee induction programme and four-monthly seat rotation.
  • Working with the graduate recruitment partners and practice group leaders to establish business needs for the seat rotation and qualification process.
  • Ensuring ongoing communication with and provide pastoral support to the trainees through regular face to face meetings.
  • Working with the EMEA HR team, advise on all employee relations issues involving graduates.
  • Managing the annual compensation review process for all trainee and intern programmes, working with the Global Compensation team, Director of Legal Recruitment, EMEA HR team and Practice Group Managers.

General duties:

  • Monthly management and annual review of the graduate recruitment and development budget.
  • Investigating the possibility of establishing graduate programmes in other EMEA offices in line with Firm requirements.
  • Keeping abreast of changing rules and regulations affecting graduate recruitment in the different jurisdictions.
  • Any other ad hoc duties in line with the requirements of the business.

Key skills

  • Knowledge of relevant international regulations and specifically the SRA regulations governing training contracts.
  • Creativity and innovation, proven experience of generating ideas for training and marketing campaigns.
  • Resilient, flexible and able to deal with variety of issues including sensitive, confidential issues as and when they arise.
  • Strong team player, able to work effectively within a small team and the wider HR department.
  • Ability to manage and develop more junior team members.

Education and experience

  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in the legal graduate recruitment market (ideally within an International or US law firm).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Fluency in other languages would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of HR procedures and professional development initiatives related to graduate recruitment.

This firm is most likely to adopt a 3 days in / 2 days from home working policy with standard hours being 9:30am to 5:30pm - the salary is generous and flexible dependent upon experience.
