Our Automated Guided Vehicle and Automated Systems Site, in Leicester, is actively seeking a self-reliant and pro-active Graduate Software Engineer who is disciplined and structured in their approach to work. If you enjoy working on projects and having a real sense of achievement, our Graduate Software Engineer role would be the perfect fit for you!  

You will work cross functionally across the business, working alongside Electrical, Mechanical and Installation Engineers and be led by our Project Managers. Based on this, we are looking for someone who thrives off being part of a team and working towards the overall business goal!

As a Graduate Software Engineer you will be involved in the configuration and installation of systems using a JBTC proprietary scripting language, as well as Jscript. The ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience of C++ and Microsoft’s Visual Studio/MFC required to debug and enhance the baseline software.
  • Capable of using transact SQL and Microsoft SQL Server, or other relational databases
  • An overall understanding of the project software development cycle is essential 

As a Graduate Software Engineer you will assist our After Market team and customers in the Implementation Enhancement software components, including:

  • Specification and acquisition of project computer hardware and commercial software.
  • Development of software functional specifications and design specifications.
  • Designing, coding, configuring, testing, debugging, installing and supporting project specific system software including:
    • Application specific software modules including decision processing, custom event processing (I/O events), and other application specific processing, primarily using a scripting language.
  • Configuration of project specific database tables.
  • Customising of User and System Management manuals.
  • Training of customer personnel on the use of the system.
  • Remote and on-site support of installed systems.
  • Participation in the out-of-hours telephone hotline support.

Plus many more aspects.

  • Ideally a degree in Computer Science or an Engineering discipline where strong computing applications and development can be demonstrated
  • Proven technical competence, but be keen to learn new technologies
  • Primary requirements are Visual C++, SQL and Microsoft Office, C#/.NET, SQL Server 2005, J Script, ASP.Net, SML and VB.
  • Working away from home for extended periods
  • Strong communications skills (Customer Facing Position)
