Due to continued research and development of new technologies and products, a position has been created for a graduate physicist or applied mathematician, with an interest in data science / data analytics. You will be joining the product research and development team of a growing tech company involved with sophisticated and intelligent sensor systems.

Required background:

  • A strong academic background including physics and applied mathematical content
  • Projects / modules involving data analysis and data science
  • Use of tools such as Matlab, Python or other modelling and analysis tools
  • Knowledge of electromagnetism or sensors technologies would be useful but is not essential

More – Graduate Physicist / Data Scientist:

The graduate Physicist / Data Scientist will be important member of the product development team and will be involved with ongoing research and development of the core technology behind the company’s detection systems. This will involve:

  • Modelling and simulation of ferromagnetic detection systems using software tools such as Python, Matlab, C++ or similar
  • Data analysis, numerical / statistical modelling, and application of signal processing / data science techniques to large experimental and computational data sets.

The ideal candidate would be an ambitious, driven, and creative applied physicist or applied mathematician with a strong academic background and a good understanding of data analysis / statistical methods.

Skills / Knowledge Required: Graduate Physicist / Data Scientist

  • A good degree, masters, or PhD from a top university in a relevant subject (e.g., physics, applied mathematics or similar.)
  • Good practical experience of applying statistical methods, data analytics, mathematical modelling, or signal processing to real World problems to create solutions for product development problems
  • Good programming / modelling experience (use of Python, Matlab, C++, Java, or similar)
  • Good problem-solving skills coupled with excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Other useful skills / knowledge:

  • Statistical analysis of large time-series datasets
  • Experience using non-linear inversion and optimisation algorithms
  • Interest, study, and experience in using machine learning techniques
  • Previous experience in magnetics, magnetic sensors, metal-detection
  • Knowledge of product development of similar scientific products
  • Excellent mathematical background (experience of data science / data analytics)
  • Use of tools such as Matlab, Python, C++ for the creating of models and the analysis of data
