The UK & ROI Division has several market leading brands including the household name Ideal Heating who manufacture in excess of 400,000 boilers per year. Recent activity has seen a drive to support its increasing focus on new and sustainable heating technologies.

OPPORTUNITY

With the UK governments net carbon zero target of 2050, Groupe Atlantic have invested in decarbonising their product range with ongoing R&D into Hydrogen Fuelled Boilers and Heat Pumps, as well as ongoing work on Traditional Gas Boilers.

The group has a strong manufacturing culture as well as a mind-set that focuses strategy on people.  With an eye towards the future and backed by their experience, they have been able to evolve and grow by constantly expanding their skills.

Today, Groupe Atlantic is made up of twelve strategic and complementary brands that create thermal comfort solutions in four areas: Heating, Hot water, Air conditioning & Ventilation.  Headquartered in Hull, Groupe Atlantic’s UK business includes leading UK brands such as Ideal Heating, Ideal Commercial, Keston and Hamworthy.

Reporting to the Development Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for working on NPI and engineering change programmes.

PERSON

The Graduate Development Engineer will be expected to:

  • Maintain a sound theoretical approach to technology and demonstrate practical application of engineering knowledge in planning and specifying activities and problem solving.
  • Promote innovation and advancement in technology.
  • Participate in research, design, and development – specifically in the low carbon sector.
  • Work with refrigeration circuits, responsible for environmental impacts and specification of thermodynamic loads.
  • Research and develop wider system knowledge from in-field application of low carbon products.
  • Complete activities in full, to time and within budget, meeting the requirements of the programme.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, ensuring ongoing review of technology, processes, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with third party expertise / contracts as required to meet NPI and CIP programmes.
  • Be responsible for ongoing continuous professional development of own competencies and highlight skills and support for development of engineering competencies, to meet programme requirements and support effective and efficient resource deployment.
  • Communicate information and knowledge to support effective decision making within specific project teams and the wider NPI structure.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues.
  • Undertake supplier liaison against the requirements of the vendor management process.
  • Build understanding of customers and markets and work with others to improve customer

Essential requirements include:

  • Awareness of effective planning and implementation of design and development activity.
  • Degree qualified in either chemical or mechanical engineering
  • A keen interest in developing a career in  product development
  • Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills, and implementation of solutions.
  • Team player with excellent communication and networking skills with strong drive and self-motivation.
  • Structured report writing skills, data compilation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of combustion in gas fired appliances.
  • Knowledge of the principles of refrigeration cycles (preferably heat pumps).
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and drive issues to completion.
  • Awareness of markets and customers.
  • Flexible and robust with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Comfortable with decision making
  • Able to perform well whilst working under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Logically minded with the ability to analyse and evaluate information quickly and accurately
