Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Special Needs (Autism Focus)

Job Description:
Academics are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful sepcial needs school in Islington. As a Teaching Assistant with a focus on supporting children with autism, you will play a crucial role in providing individualized care and support to our students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to students with autism, helping them to engage in learning activities and develop essential skills.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies tailored to the needs of each student.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the social, emotional, and academic development of students with autism.
- Support students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene, as required.
- Assist with the implementation of sensory integration techniques and other therapeutic interventions to support students' sensory needs.
- Collaborate with the school's multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to ensure coordinated support for students with autism.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, and communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about their child's development.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working with individuals with autism or other special educational needs is preferred.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with autism and a commitment to their holistic development.
- Willingness to assist with personal care tasks, including toileting and feeding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with children with diverse needs.
- Ability to adapt to the changing needs of students and respond effectively to challenging behaviors.
